I went out today to buy a few things and, not surprisingly, there were limits to the number of people that could be in each store at a time... 30 people were allowed in the first store and only 5 were allowed in the second store (it was a lot smaller). It was quite incredible to see lines of people quieting and calmly waiting outside each store, and then people respectfully moving around and keeping distance inside the stores. Montreal is usually a city that moves sooo fast, but there was such an atmosphere of peace and patience in the air today... it was quite amazing.
On another note, since hubby works in a pharmacy, he and all the other employees received letters today that they must carry on them at all times when they are going to and from work, in case they are stopped and questioned by the police. The letters verify that the individual works at a business that has been designated by the government to stay open and provide an essential service. The possibility of needing those letters has been discussed over the past week or so... but it is more than surreal and kind of scary that they are no longer a possibility but a necessary reality.
Please STAY AT HOME but, if you do need to go out to buy something, please be KIND and PATIENT with all those who are working to provide us with essential services. And, before you leave the store, take two seconds to sincerely THANK the person who helped you for going to work every day to help keep that store open. It will truly be appreciated and will put a smile on the face of someone who is probably more than just a little scared, for themselves and for their families, to go to work every day right now. 💖
